Richard Whitmer Jr., 79, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born June 6, 1945 in Daviess County to the late Richard Henry Whitmer Sr. and Vernile Gray Whitmer. Richard retired from Century Aluminum and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. Richard was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church where he was in the Love and Laughter Life group and was a greeter. He loved fast cars and enjoyed watching Westerns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Pike Whitmer; brother, Dwight Whitmer; and a brother-in-law, Ricky Hall.
He is survived by a son, Rick (Carrie) Whitmer; two grandchildren, Joy Beth (Matt) Swanberg and Jack Whitmer; two sisters, Judy (Mark) Maddox and Debbie Hall; sister-in-law, Beth Whitmer; his dog and faithful companion, Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Bellevue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at Bellevue Baptist Church.
