Clarence G. Robinson

July 19, 1943 - September 2, 2024

Clarence G. Robinson

Clarence G. Robinson was called home to be with the Lord, September 2, 2024, after a fulfilling 81 years of life. He was born July 19, 1943 to Earl Conley Sr. and Bonnie Robinson, becoming one of what would eventually be 21 children.

After being awarded a Bronze star for his heroic achievements in Vietnam, Clarence spent the first half of his adult life as a car body man, painting cars and working as a mechanic just like his brothers. This love for cars (especially the classics) extended throughout his life, as did his love for the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Celtics, and of course, the athletics at the University of Kentucky. In his later years he enjoyed eating sweets, drinking coffee, and reading Westerns on the front porch.

Clarence is proceeded in death by his parents, his sisters: Anna Robinson, Mildred “Mickey” Robinson, Alma Higgs, Louise Ahlert, Shirley Bennett, Mary “Frances” Robinson and brothers: Cecil Robinson, Hulbert “Hub” Robinson, Earl C. Robinson Jr., William “Bud” Robinson, Dewey Robinson, and his twin brother Clyde Robinson.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda (Pate) Robinson, his eldest son, Bryan Robinson and his wife Crissy, and his youngest son, David Robinson. Clarence also leaves behind his grandchildren, his life’s blood, whom he was so proud of and loved fiercely: Grant Robinson and his wife Madison, Emma Robinson, Avery Hardesty, Chloe Robinson, and Tanner Robinson as well as his 4 great-grandchildren: Liza-Clare (Chloe), Salem (Avery), Cora James and Reeves (Grant).

While UK basketball and football certainly had its place in his life, Clarence loved watching his grandchildren excel on the court, field or stage even more. He and Linda rarely missed an event. Home or away, rain or shine, they were there. The Robinson grandkids knew they could count on Papaw for whatever they needed. Whether it be a ride to ball practice, a customer at their pretend barber shop, a Yoo-hoo and bag of Cheetos from the gas station, or a little bit of cash slipped into their hand. More than anything, his kids, grandkids and those close to him could always count on him to crack a joke (maybe at their expense) or lend a smile when they needed it most.

Clarence Robinson leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness and an overwhelming dedication to his family. He will be forever missed but always remembered.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Cloverport Baptist Church with burial following in Cloverport Cemetery. Clarence’s family will be greeting friends on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 4 pm until 8 pm and on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 10 am until service time at Cloverport Baptist Church.
