Doris Augenstein Barnes, 90, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at her home while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born March 10, 1934 in Daviess County to the late Joseph Henry and Nora Frances Sinclair Augenstein. Doris was a member of First Baptist Church, had retired from General Electric after 30 years, and had also worked at Owensboro-Daviess Co. Hospital for 10 years. She enjoyed going to garage sales and to the casino. She also loved spending time with and cooking for her family, crocheting, and making crafts.
Doris was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Howard Barnes on September 4, 2002, a grandson, Brice Howard Barnes, four sisters, Georgia, Nora, Elsie, and Pauline, and several nieces and nephews.
Surviving is her son, Timothy Howard Barnes of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Crissy Bowman (Dustin Martin) of Owensboro and Dr. Aaron Barnes (Divya Kondaveeti) of Lexington; five great grandchildren, Brooklyn Cole (Jared), Luc Bowman, Emily Bowman, Jonathan Barnes, and Layla Barnes, all of Owensboro; three great great grandchildren, Prescott, Ellington, and Emerson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Doris will be 2 PM Saturday, September 7, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with entombment following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Friday and from Noon until the time of the service Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
