John Philip Hornsby

John Philip Hornsby, 77, of Owensboro, passed away on September 9, 2024, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Philip was born May 23, 1947, in Louisville, to the late Henry and Martha (Simon) Hornsby. He retired, from Pepsi-Cola, as a Route Salesman, and served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

Philip was a proud member of the VFW Post 696 and a member of Saints Joe and Paul Catholic Church. In his spare time, Philip enjoyed working on his 1939 Chevy Coupe, NASCAR, being a Hot Rod enthusiast, and attending car shows with his cousin, Jerry Wayne. He cherished his family and loved spending time with them.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Margaret “Ellen” (Bowlds) Hornsby, and his sisters, Martha Jean Stallings Bradley and Mary Louise Brown.

Philip is survived by his children, Tina (Jeff) Moseley and Amy (Jason) Glover; his grandchildren, Alisha Glover, Ava Glover, Anna Glover, and Lincoln Moseley; his great-grandchildren, Amaryllis and Anastasia Moseley; and his siblings, Jimmy Hornsby, Judy (Terry) Gist, and Joey Hornsby; several cherished nieces and nephews; and his special nieces and caregivers, Andrea Spence and Heather Stallings; and his work friend, of thirty-nine years, Billy McBride.

Funeral services, led by Father Will Thompson, will take place at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Prayers will be said at 6:00 PM, by Father Will Thompson, on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the selfless service and care of the staff at Hospice of Western Kentucky, with special thanks to Sarah.
