Virgie Gilbert Sharp

July 16, 1930 - April 24, 2019

Virgie Gilbert Sharp, 88, of Owensboro, passed away April 24th, 2019. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 16, 1930, to the late Overt and Ethel Cary Gilbert. Virgie was an amazing woman who had a true zest for life. When she was younger, she taught in a one-room school and would ride a horse to work. She upgraded from the horse when she began racing micro mini cars and then moved on to riding motorcycles. She also loved dancing to big band music, fishing, and her cats and dogs. Virgie was of the Presbyterian faith and was a member of Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In her professional life, Virgie retired after 46 years of service at The Arc of Owensboro Opportunity Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray Sharp; son, Kenneth Lee Sharp; siblings, Norma Jean Buck, Ralph Gilbert, and Elmer Gilbert; and longtime companion, Eddie Fulkerson.

She is survived by a son, Jesse Callaway (Lisa); grandsons, Andrew Sharp and Ben Sharp; daughter-in-law, Patti Sharp Leazer (Gary); and a whole host of nieces and nephews.

The service will be noon Saturday, April 27, 2019, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Dennis Preston officiating. Visitation will be from 1 until 8 pm on Friday and from 10 am until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bells Run cemetery.
