Herman Lee McCormick, 86, of Evansville, formerly of Owensboro passed away Monday, September 23, 2024, at his home after a prolonged battle with cancer. The Daviess County native was born January 1, 1938, to the late Matthew and Willa Mae Norris McCormick. Herman graduated from Western High School, class of 1956. He retired after more than fifty years at National Southwire. Herman loved his family and enjoyed their special times together, especially Christmas. He cherished all his Father’s Day gifts and kept every one of them. Herman was a humble man who was known to family and friends as “the good guy.” Perhaps this stemmed from his Christian faith where he was a faithful member of Smithfield Baptist Church in Rockport and his daily hour of devotions reading his bible every day. Herman loved taking photos, old western movies, and traveling, which included trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Bahamas.
In addition to her parents, Herman also was preceded in death by his wife, Rene, earlier this year; brothers, Herschel Morrow and Charles McCormick; sisters, Gracie Holt and Caroline Cooper; nephew, Richard Morrow who very recently passed away.
Those left to cherish his memory include daughters, Constance McCormick of Evansville, Deidre McCormick, Vickie Acton (Roger), and Christy Hanley all of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Skyy Hicks, Myles Kelley, Alonzo Acton; one great grandchild, Shaniyah McCall; siblings, Bobby McCormick (Mary Helen) and Barbara Winstead; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at noon Saturday, September 28 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with same day visitation from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
