Charles J. Smiley, Sr. age 74 of Cloverport, KY passed away on September 24, 2024, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born in Hardinsburg, KY on January 7, 1950, son of the late Alvey and Henrietta Decker Smiley. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a truck driver, an occupation that he enjoyed, especially meeting new people and seeing new sites. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, riding motorcycles and attending drag races, where his son competed. He had a huge heart and it grew bigger each time he was with his wife Rose and their children and grandchildren. Family gatherings were a special time for him, but most recently he found that sitting on the porch with Rose, having a cup of coffee and watching the squirrels was very peaceful…it’s the little things in life that make us feel the best.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson John Waddell, Jr. and siblings Donna, Vicky Sue and James Edward “Corky”.

17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren
2 brothers: Bruce Smiley (Kim) and Tommy Smiley
3 sisters: Sheila Puckett (Jimmie), Patty Wilkerson (Terry) and Anna Sloan
Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Cloverport Community Church on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11 AM with cremation to follow. Visitation will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Friday, 4-8 PM and Saturday 8 – 10 AM. All times are central.
