Elaine Westerfield Lilly, 67, of Owensboro entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 29, 2019 while surrounded by her family. Born December 29, 1951 in Owensboro to the late James A. Westerfield and Doretha Powers Westerfield, Elaine attended Owensboro High School (class of ’69) and then earned a master’s degree in English from Western Kentucky University. She taught English at Apollo High School from 1973-78 and later, while raising three sons, became an instructor at Owensboro Community College.
Elaine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She enjoyed quilting and made personalized quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. Elaine was a delightful storyteller and entertained her grandchildren with stories of a mischievous dog and cat. As a history buff, she often had an interesting bit of trivia to share. She enjoyed celebrating all the holidays with her family and was known for her thoughtful gifts.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 44 years, David Lilly; three sons, Matt Lilly and wife Abbie of Windermere, Florida, Chris Lilly and wife Ashley of Lexington, and Ryan Lilly and wife Lauren of Manchester, Connecticut; five grandchildren who affectionately called her “Mimi”, Adelyn, Caroline, Caiden, Hudson and Deacon; brother, Bruce Westerfield of Owensboro and uncle, Sam Powers of Evansville.
A celebration of Elaine Lilly’s life will be Saturday at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Strahan officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until time of service. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
