Avon Dawdy

May 26, 1923 - May 3, 2019

Avon Dawdy, 95, of Maceo, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 at her home. She was born May 26, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa to the late Michael and Grace Guile Brennan. Avon was the President of the Foster Parents Association of Los Angeles, Calif. for 20 years and she and her husband fostered children for many years. She loved crocheting having recently finished a four foot by 3 foot hanging of the Last Supper. She enjoyed Nascar and her favorite driver was Jimmie Johnson. Avon enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her angel food cake, and had printed a cookbook with her daughter Pat of all the old recipes of her late mother-in-law. She loved going to garage sales and auctions and she and her husband had a booth at the Consumer’s Mall. She always kept a beautiful home for her husband until this past year when she fell and broke her hip.

Avon was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Dawdy, a son-in-law, Robert Griffith, her stepfather, Guy Boggs, a grandson, Guy Dawdy, a great grandson, Tyler Dawdy, two sisters, LeNora Becker and Guyleen Tippery, and two brothers, Lyle Brennan and Don Brennan.

Surviving are her husband of 78 years, Stanley Dawdy, four daughters, Pat Griffith and Beatrice Davidson and husband Larry, all of Owensboro, Judy Taylor and husband Gayln of Maceo, and Kari Fuller of Fresno, CA, two sons, Larry Dawdy and wife Charlene of Owensboro and Gary Dawdy and wife Karen of Pacomia, CA., 21 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service for Avon Dawdy will be 5PM Wednesday, May 8, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.

Stanley and her family would like to give a special thanks to their three great granddaughters, Breann, Natalie, and Sarah Taylor who Avon called her three visiting angels for all the time they spent with her The family would also like to thank Amedisys Home Health and Hospice of Western Kentucky for their loving care.
