Dorothy Snyder Jones 76, of Island, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at her home in Island. Dorothy Snyder was born May 3, 1948 in Cashmere, West Virginia to the late Landon William and Anna Rose Shultz Snyder and was married to Johnnie Franklin Jones, Jr. on February 3, 1973. Dorothy was a cherished matriarch and beacon of warmth. Her life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and tender care, woven through the years she shared with her beloved family and friends.
Before dedicating her life to her family as a homemaker, Dorothy contributed her skills and bright personality as a receptionist for various area companies. Her professional warmth and welcoming smile left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.
Dorothy’s passions were simple yet profound. She found immense pleasure in tending to her flower garden, where she cultivated beauty and serenity that mirrored her own spirit. Her loyal dog, Piper, was a constant companion, and together they shared many peaceful moments. Dorothy’s happiest times, however, were spent surrounded by her family and friends. She had a special gift for making each gathering memorable, and her presence was a source of comfort and joy, especially to her grand and great-grandbabies, whom she adored immeasurably.
Dorothy was a member of Livermore Missionary Baptist Church, where she embraced her community and found strength and fellowship. Her faith was evident in her actions, and she lived by the principles of love and kindness that her church espoused.
Those who knew Dorothy would describe her as loving—a word that encapsulates the essence of her being. Her love was a guiding force, a light that shined brightly on everyone she touched. It was a love that did not end with her passing but continues to resonate in the lives of those she cherished.
Dorothy lived a life that was rich in love and laughter, and though she has departed from this world, the warmth of her love remains. Her memory will be held in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Johnnie F. Jones, Jr., who died February 27, 2018 and by two brothers, Jimmie Snyder and Clyde Snyder.
Dorothy is survived by three sons, Johnnie Jones (Tracy) of Bremen, Jason Jones of Livermore, and Jesse Jones (Charlotte) of Island; five grandchildren, Jessica Knight (David), Kyler Jones (Kristen), Rebecca Jones, Jesse Evan Jones, II, and Rose Jones; 3 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Stacy Snyder (Martha) of Bristol, Tennessee, Johnny Snyder (Shirley) of Bluff City, Tennessee, Charles Snyder of Bristol, Hartsel Snyder, and Jackie Snyder (Darlene) both of Bluff City; four sisters, Shriley Mohl of Bristol, Elizabeth Carter (Randolph) of Ballard, West Virginia, Ruth Harris of Old Fort, North Carolina, and Peggy Akers (Daniel) of Peterstown, West Virginia; and a half sister, Rosie Combs of Bristol.
