Michael Wayne Smith, 78, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024. He was born September 1, 1946, in Daviess County, to the late Hayden G. and Goldie Alvey Smith.
Michael was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, watching his grandson’s cross-country team, and coaching in his earlier days.
Along with his parents, Michael is preceded in death by his sister, Henrietta May, and brother, Alvey Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Donna Hardmen Smith; children, Mischelle Genét Smith and Paul Alexander Smith; grandchildren, Sheridan Dawson, Asheria Brown (Bill), Christopher Alexander Smith, Diamond Alexis Canary, and Leland Grant Smith; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mamie Gordon and Jeani Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory, with Fr. Ray Clark officiating. Burial to follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory, with prayers at 6:00 p.m., and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
