James “Jim” Garland Alvey

James “Jim” Garland Alvey, 92, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The Daviess County native was born April 20, 1932, as one of six children to the late Joseph and Katherine Alvey. Jim graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School, class of 1950. He was employed with Citizens State Bank where he was a branch manager and advanced to Vice President before retiring. Not one to sit around, Jim enjoyed RV camping with his family. He also received his commercial driver’s license and drove for Baskins-Robbins and later United Coach. Being a friendly, outgoing person who loved good conversation, he thoroughly enjoyed driving for United Coach and going to different events with his passengers.

In addition to his parents, Jim also was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara in 2013 and all of his siblings.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Deborah Harper and husband, Mike of Owensboro; stepson, James Hardison of Hartselle, Alabama; grandchildren, Justin Harper (Katie) and Joe Harper III; step grandchildren, Erin, John, and Joe Hardison; great grandchildren, Kendall and Hazel Harper; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service with military honors will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 6 in Christ’s Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens where there will be an hour of visitation from noon until the time of the service. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
