Darrell G. Hood, aged 89, of Owensboro, passed away on November 30, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on October 8, 1935, in Daviess County to Newell Justin and Mary Bernice Hardesty Hood. Darrell was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and served as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He retired from Commonwealth Aluminum after 29 years as a crane operator. A dedicated lifelong member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, he was the first Lay Lector at St. Joseph’s, volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister, and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. His interests included golfing, following U.K. basketball, training Tennessee Walking horses, and playing poker.

Darrell was preceded in death by three brothers; Robert N. Hood, Gerald Ray Hood, and Charles Harry Hood; a sister-in-law, Connie Simon Hood; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Kaye Whelan Hood.

He is survived by the love of his life and best friend, his wife of 64 years, Lois Russellburg Hood; son Tom Hood (Caroline) of McKinney, Texas; daughter Darla French (Jim) of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren: Jarrod, Justin, Theresa, and Alexandra Hood, Rachel Lundy (James), Nick French (Sara), and John Thomas French; seven siblings: Jackie Cecil, Doug Hood (Dorothy), Sandy Mayfield, Sheila Head, Linda Hagan, Norma Fulkerson (Eddie), Debbie Murphy (Larry); and two sisters-in-law, Celeste Hood and Judy Hood, and one aunt, Geraldine Jarnigan.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Friday, December 6th at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, followed by burial with full military honors at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 PM until 6 PM Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard and from 9 AM until the time of the mass at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church.
