Margaret Darla "Peggy" Davis

April 17, 1952 - May 11, 2019

Margaret Darla “Peggy” Davis, 67, of Owensboro, went to reside with the Lord, Saturday May 11, 2019, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born April 17, 1952, in Owensboro, to the late William and Virginia Hampton Huff.

Peggy graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work from Eastern Kentucky University and a master’s degree in geriatrics from Western Kentucky University. With her degrees, she served as a medical social worker for over 36 years at the Green River District Health Department where she implemented and directed various programs within the seven-county district, which continue today to improve the lives of families in need.

She was an active member of Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she served as CPW President and Regional Treasurer. She was ordained Elder November 26, 2017. Peggy also began a ministry within her church to donate knitted and crocheted creations to the local schools and homeless shelters.

In retirement she enjoyed gardening, whether growing produce or flowers, and taking multiple travel excursions with family and friends. Peggy will be remembered for being a peacemaker and having a servant’s heart. She loved, and was deeply loved in return by her family, friends and church family.

Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Jo Huff; brother-in-law, Richie Ellis; and nephew, Ricky Ellis.

She is survived by her daughters, Sarah (Ish) Dant of Owensboro and Becky (Chris) Davis-Harrison of Brownsburg, IN; grandchildren, Madison and Cate Harrison, Ishmael and Everett Dant (or as Nana called them, her “precious baby boys”); sister, Elizabeth Ellis; brother, David (Evie) Huff; her lifetime best friend, Sue Richards; father-in-law, Curt Davis; great aunts, Betty and Dora; nieces and nephews, Tina, Troy, Bryan (Nicole), Gloria (Chris), David Michael, Stevie (Judy), Karen, Sharon (Douglas), Jacob R. and Elizabeth (Adam); 18 great nieces and nephews; and 14 great-great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Heartford House staff for such wonderful care and to close friends, Donna, Linda and Gwan for all their continuous help and support.

The service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 15 at Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. There will also be visitation Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at church. The private committal service will be at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Calhoun.
