
Rev. George W. Phillips 92, of Central City, Kentucky passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the Heartford House in Owensboro. George Wallace Phillips was born March 31, 1932 in D’Lo, Mississippi to the late James Grady and Myrtle Marie Smith Phillips and was married to the former Mary Jo Brinson on August 31, 1951.
George was a United Methodist Minister for over 65 years serving multiple churches across Kentucky. Additionally, he served as an Evangelist supported by the George Phillips Evangelistic Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Central City. He loved deer hunting, leading tours to the Holy Land, and sharing the word of God.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jo Phillips, who died March 6, 2009; by his brother, Henry Phillips; and by three sisters, Johnnie Merle, Clara Watkins, and Cora Hanson.
George is survived by his daughter, Rebekah Phillips of Viroqua, Wisconsin: three sons, Grady Phillips (JoAnn) of Fairhope, Alabama, Marc Phillips (Nicola) of Haskell, Oklahoma, and Bill Phillips of Evergreen, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Flora McDonald (Mitchell) of Preston, Mississippi.
Services in Kentucky will include a visitation from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. (CST) on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at First United Methodist Church of Central City, 200 Broad Street, Central City. Services in Mississippi will include a funeral service at 1:00 P.M. (CST) Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Bethany Methodist Church, 3324 Cato Road, Braxton. Burial will be in the Bethany Methodist Cemetery in Braxton. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. (noon) until 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Bethany Methodist Church. Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel is handling the arrangements with assistance from Colonial Chapel of Mendenhall, MS.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to support the Mary Jo Phillips Daycare Center in Asuncion, Paraguay.
