We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Karen Jean Simon Laney, 76, of Owensboro. Surrounded by her family, Karen left this earthly world in Owensboro, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. She was born December 19, 1948, to the late John Simon and Delores Bartlett of Owensboro. Karen took great pride in her years of service at Owensboro Daviess County Hospital, Mary Kendall Home as a counselor, and Green River Area Development District (GRADD) as a Program Assistant, where she retired. Karen received several recognition/awards including a Kentucky Colonel in 2010. She loved spending time with her family and friends, reading, cooking, and the companionship of her pets. She had several beloved pets, both dogs and cats, and often chose to take in rescue animals.

She leaves behind a son, Richard Goatee (Christina) of Baltimore; a brother, Larry Simon (Debbie) of Owensboro; three nephews, William Simon (Amy)of Richmond, Jason Simon (Anastacia) of Reynolds Station, and Christopher Simon (Johnetta) of Lawrenceburg; along with seven great-nephews and six great-nieces; and many more cousins including, Stephanie Jarvis, Renee Fiorella, Stacy Mason, and Brian East, who were especially dear to her. She was also blessed with lifetime friends, Sandy Johnson, and Brenda Havener with whom she shared love and support.

Funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory with burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Philpot, Ky. Friends may visit with Karen’s family from 11:30 am until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
