Kenneth Austin Cain

February 25, 1931 - June 4, 2019

Kenneth Austin Cain, 88, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Ohio County on February 25, 1931 to Charles and Sadie Barker Cain. He served in the United States Army in the 555th Field Artillery Battalion as a combat medic during the Korean War, and received 2 bronze stars for his gallantry in action. Kenneth was retired from WR Grace and Company where he was a Machine Operator. Kenneth was a member of St. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, Daviess County Fish and Game Association, and a former member of Fort Hartford Muzzle Loaders. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, drawing, and building bird houses.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mavis Isbill Cain who passed away in 2013, and his siblings, Ruth, Rose and Charles.

Kenneth is survived by his children, Stephen (Darlena Mattingly) Cain, of Owensboro, Diana (Keith) Ellis, of Owensboro; his grandchildren, Laura Thompson, Brandon Ellis, Chelsea Ellis; his great-grandchildren, Michaela Thompson, Hannah Jo Thompson, Elizabeth Thompson; his siblings, Lima (Kenton) Wells of Ohio County, Reba (Miles) Cain of Tampa, Florida, Will (Linda) Cain of Versailles, Kentucky, Ella Ellis, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, and again from 9:00 am until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Prayers will be said 6:30 pm Friday at the funeral home.
