William Dempsey Farmer

William D. Farmer, 85, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025, at his home. He was born in Fordsville, Kentucky on November 28, 1939 to the late Ezra and Commie Farmer.

He served in aviation for the U.S. Navy, having spent two years working the flight deck on the Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier.

At the age of 56, Dempsey retired from the Whirlpool Corporation plant in Evansville, Indiana, following 30 years of service.

He enjoyed U.K. Basketball and NHRA Drag Racing, which he used to participate in locally. He was a boating enthusiast, spending summers at Rough River, and also enjoyed motorcycling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Blair and Martha Channel.

Dempsey is survived by his wife of 46 years, Melody; a daughter, Tonya Hoy; stepson, Doug Bellew; stepdaughter, Donna Bellew; step-grandsons, Dustin Bellew and Jason Woolridge; and a brother-in-law, Kent Russell, of Rockport, IN.

Military honors will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 30, at Christ Chapel in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Per Mr. Farmer’s request, there will not be any visitation.
