
Tom D. Scales, 77, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born October 16, 1941 in Boonville, IN to the late William Franklin and Alice Mae Lethco Scales. Tom was retired from pharmaceutical sales with the Novartis Pharmaceutical Co. after over 25 years of service and had also worked at Field Packing Co. for 10 years. He was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church and was a big fan and advocate of Owensboro Catholic High School athletics. Tom had served on the Owensboro Catholic High School Athletic Advisory Board, was a member of the Gold and Emerald Club, and had been involved in OCHS fund raising. He also had been involved with the Southern Little League and was a past president there. Tom was a 1964 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College having received his B.S. degree in Chemistry. He especially loved spending time with his family and many friends, always made it a point to go to every family function especially those involving his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and did everything in his power to not miss an OCHS baseball game. Tom was a very selfless man that left a great impact on many people and was a true example of a life well-lived.
Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joann Collignon Scales, a daughter, Pamela Steele and husband John of Atlanta, two sons, Tommy Scales II and wife Robyn of Owensboro and Christopher Scales of Atlanta. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Brittany Steele Bramlett and husband Ben, Austin Steele and wife Katie, Mitchell Steele and fiancé Kelly, Logan Steele, and Nate Steele and fiancé Danielle, all of Atlanta, and Mary Catherine Scales and Luke Scales, both of Owensboro, five great grandchildren, Isabella, Lily, and Lucy Bramlett, and Brody and Ryan Steele, all of Atlanta, and two sisters, Joyce Gilpatrick of Dale, IN and Dixie Hemmings and husband Mike of Rockport, IN.
The Funeral Mass for Tom Scales will be Noon Tuesday, June 11, at Immaculate Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday with prayers at 6:30 PM and from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
