Anna Lois Rhodes Sims

Anna Lois Rhodes Sims, 93, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 19, 1931, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elsie (Head) Rhodes.

Before marrying and dedicating herself to raising her five children, Lois worked at General Electric. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she found joy in nurturing her family and serving her community. She was a faithful member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, volunteered at the Help Office, and was honored with the prestigious Sophia Award in 2000 for her service and devotion.

Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, William Robert “Bob” Sims; her sons, Mark Alan Sims and Michael Anthony Sims; her siblings Harold, Louis, Leon, and Anthony Rhodes, and Kathleen Harrison; and a great-granddaughter, Penelope Pru Merritt.

She is survived by her children: Sandy Merritt of Whitesville, Jeff (Sandra) Sims of Philpot, and Lori (Thom) Butler of Indianapolis. Lois leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Robbie (Kim) Merritt, Amy (Mark) Brasher, Clint (Brandi) Merritt, and Jamie (Wes) Hamilton, all of Whitesville; Brandon (Mallory) Sims of Owensboro; Brooks (Brooke) Butler of Nashville; Dalton and Eli Butler of Indianapolis; and Chris (Becky) and Tuesdee Richards of Owensboro. She is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren; her siblings Gerald Rhodes, Marie Brandle, and Carolyn Nissen; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky, in honor of Lois’s compassionate spirit and lifelong dedication to helping others.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Precious Blood Catholic Church, with Father Carl McCarthy presiding. Burial to follow at Resurrection cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visitation at Precious Blood Catholic Church on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
