She was born May 5, 1930 in Cunot, Indiana to the late John Lloyd Coffey and Parthena Pauline Hoffa Coffey. After graduating from Cloverdale High School, she attended Indiana University. There she met E.K. “Jack” Barnard in an English class. They were married on January 21, 1949. After Jack’s graduation, he accepted a position with his uncle’s business, Modern Welding. The young couple moved to Owensboro in 1950. Betty worked at Sears in the credit department and as in-store/newspaper ad model. As the children came along, she became involved in PTA, scouts, and supporting sporting activities. Betty was a member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church for 70 years. She taught Sunday School for 44 years. When she wasn’t at church or the Help Office, or other volunteering dates, she was playing golf at Owensboro Country Club. Betty enjoyed 60 years of Florida vacations at their Stuart, then Venice, homes. She had lived at home on Griffith Avenue where there were plenty of porch seats and the door was always open.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.K. “Jack” Barnard.

She is survived by sons, Greg (Alice) Barnard and Lance Barnard; daughter, Suzanne (David) Kuhn; six grandchildren, Aaron (Tera), Adam (Angie), Brian, Amy (Mark), Lucy Anne, and Jordan Leigh; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaleb, James, Wyatt, Ava, Cooper, Scarlett, Annabeth, and Owen.
