Mary Lou Goodsell

Mary Lou Bowman Blair Goodsell, 86, of Owensboro, was called home on Monday, August 18, 2025 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born October 3, 1938 in Owensboro to the late Henry R. Simmons and Haidee Lou Hatcher Simmons. Mary Lou worked at Mercy Hospital and Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. She also did private duty nursing and was a medical missionary in Haiti for 20 years. Mary Lou worked for American Red Cross for 20 years as a rapid response for disasters in all but three U.S. states and two foreign countries. She was a U.S. Marines veteran and a life member of AmVets Post 75, Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 696, DAV, and White Shrine of Jerusalem Chapter 2.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Gene Bowman; great-granddaughter, Nova Gene; and siblings, James, Thomas, Henry, and Azlee Simmons.

She is survived by a son, Buddy Blair (Kim); four granddaughters, Britney O’Bryan (Sean), Stephenie Smith (Tyler), Hannah Ward (Dylan), and Sarah Stepp (Jordan); eight great-grandchildren, Grant, Karson, Owen, Charli, Lindleigh, Lucy, Caleb, and Atlas; stepson, Ricky Rice; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
