Barbara Jean (Estes) Brown

Barbara Jean (Estes) Brown, 87, of Maceo passed away on December 25, 2025. She was born on October 16, 1938, to the late James Hubert and Helena Gertrude (Bowlds) Estes.

Barbara was a devoted homemaker and a woman of Catholic faith. She found joy in singing, dancing, creating art, and listening to old country music, especially the songs of Hank Williams, Sr. She loved cooking for those she cared for, always measuring ingredients with her heart rather than a measuring cup—adding a little sugar to just about everything, including the occasional hot toddies she spoke of but never drank.

Along with her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her brothers, James Otwell, Russell “Shokey”, Alan Ray, Hubert Louis, Robert Winston, and Henry “Guy” Estes; her sisters, Pansy Lou Estes, Mary Ruth Francullo, and Frances B King, and her granddaughter, Tabatha Wilkerson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of sixty-three years, Paul Vincent Brown; her children, Vincent Michael (Juliana) Brown, James Marcus (Karla) Brown, Dennis Martin (Shellie) Brown, Donna Maria (Timmy) Wilkerson, Helena Michelle (Eric) Anderson, and Angela Marlene (Chris) Stidham; her siblings, Virginia Ray, Judith Powers, and Maxine Stroud; twenty-three grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Saint Mary of The Woods Catholic Church, with Fr Brian Roby officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory, with prayers being said at 6:30 pm, and will resume on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 8:00 am to 9:00 am at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations made payable to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 304 Whittington Pkwy Suite 102, Louisville, KY 40222. Envelopes will be made available during services.
