Billy Joe Oost, 83, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at The Heartford House while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born on January 12, 1945 in Owensboro, KY to the late Veachie and Oma Dean Rhoades Oost. He was a hard worker and retired from Commonwealth Aluminum after 30 years and then loved working at the airport and Pilot Steel as a safety director. Billy was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He loved music, singing, and playing the guitar and harmonica. He also loved growing plants and exotic trees. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, friends, and dog, Miley. His son Bret was his pride and joy. Billy’s charm and personality was best shown through his jokes and storytelling.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Angela Gale Horn Oost; sister, Mary Lou Huffines; and brother; Wayne Oost.
Survivors include his son, Bret Oost; granddaughter, Lauren Smith; great-granddaughters, Cameron Oost, Kayley Smith and Kensley Smith; siblings, Anna Howard and Donna Scott.
Funeral services will be at 6:00pm on Monday, January 19, 2026 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Clear Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
