James Leon Henning, age 78 of McDaniels, KY, passed away February 5, 2026, at Baptist Health Hardin. He was born in the Cannons Point area of Breckinridge County on October 12, 1947, son of the late Henry and Virginia McClellan Henning. Leon was a farmer and home interior painter. First and foremost, he loved and was loved very much by his large family. A close second was his love of bass fishing. He participated in the Zoneton Fishing Tournament for over 19 years. Finally, when he wasn’t working or fishing, you could find him mowing his yard – a lot. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Major League Fishing and westerns.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Teresa Henning.
Leon is survived by his wife Elva Skaggs Henning.
5 children: Junior Henning (Marcella), Jenny Hardesty (Jack), Barbara Floyd (Aaron), Adam Henning (Bethany) and Jessy Floyd (Matt)
9 grandchildren: Shae, Addison, Jeslyn, Hunter, Gavin (Breanna), Braelyn, Peanut, Javonnica and Robert
1 great grandchild: Aleena
5 brothers: Denvir Henning (Carolyn), Glen Henning, Bobby Henning (Lisa), Leonard Henning (Lori) and Billy Henning (Sandy)
1 sister: Jean Cain (Gary)
In keeping with Leon’s wishes, cremation was chosen with no services.
