James E. Payne, 88, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. James was born on June 5, 1937 in Daviess County to the late William and Virgina Millay Payne. He was a United States Army Veteran.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Payne; son, Timmy Payne; and sister, Mary Ann Postelwaite (Tom).
Survivors include his children, Greg Gaddis (Dee), Tonya Thompson (Steve), Gina Jessen (Rob), Kim Moran (Shane) and Brenda Jaakkola; brother, Richard Payne (Gina); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of life was held by the immediate family. James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
