Loyd “Bill” Greenwood, 78, passed peacefully on March 2, 2026, at 10:20 AM at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, surrounded by the love of family and the prayers of many who cherished him. Born on May 20, 1947, to the late Charles “Charlie” Greenwood and Gladys Boyter, Bill was a man defined by courage, loyalty, faith, and deep devotion to those he loved.

A proud Vietnam War veteran, Bill served honorably in The Big Red One, the 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army. His bravery and sacrifice earned him several Purple Heart awards – a testament to his strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his country. He carried the spirit of a true soldier long after his service, marked by quiet strength and steadfast character.

Above all, Bill was a family man. He was a loving and devoted father to Tina, Christie, and Sean Greenwood, and a proud and beloved grandfather. His children and grandchildren were among his greatest blessings, and he never missed an opportunity to express how much they meant to him.

Bill was a man of God whose faith anchored his life. He was a loyal friend – the kind of man who would show up without being asked and stand beside you no matter the circumstance. His presence brough comfort, wisdom, and sometimes a bit of well-timed humor to those fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his children, Bill is survived by Darlene’s sons Barry Smith (Kim) and Garry Smith (Debbie), his brother Jimmy Greenwood (Shirley), his sisters Marie Starnes and Linda Greenwood.

Bill’s life was one of service – to his country, to his family, to his friends, and to his faith. The legacy he leaves behind is one of strength, sacrifice, and unconditional love.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
