Father Aloysius Francis Powers

Father Aloysius Francis Powers, 98, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the Carmel Home. He was born in Daviess County on January 4, 1921 to the late Joseph H. Powers, Sr. and Teresa M. McCarthy Powers. Father Powers was ordained in 1948. His first appointment was as an associate at St. Stephen Cathedral. His 2 nd appointment was at St. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. His first Parish as pastor was St. Augustine Catholic Church in Reed with Sorgho, St. Pius X in Calvert City, then back to St. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro. From there, Father Powers pastored St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mayfield, St. Thomas Moore in Paducah, and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Curdsville, all in Kentucky.

Along with his parents, Father Powers was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Agnes Powers, Patricia Garvin, Elizabeth M. Lattus, Celine M. Kahalley, his brothers, Joseph H. Powers, Jr. and Robert A. Powers.

Father Powers is survived by his siblings, Monsignor Bernard A. Powers, Reverend Richard M. Powers, Martha M. Taylor, Mary T. Hayden, and Maddaline Leach.

Services will be 10:00 am Monday, September 9, 2019 at St. Stephen Cathedral, with Bishop Medley as principal celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount St. Joseph. Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, and again from 8:00 am to 10:00 am Monday at St. Stephen Cathedral.
