Robert E. “Bob” Thomas passed away on March 29, 2026, in Owensboro, KY. He was born on November 24, 1929, in Waverly, Union County, Kentucky, to the late Hilary LeRoy and Willie Florence Mills Thomas. Bob was a graduate of Holy Name Catholic School in Henderson, KY.
Bob was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and a former member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He later retired from Mount St. Joseph, where he worked in maintenance, and also served his community as a volunteer firefighter with St. Joseph. In addition, he retired from Electrical Equipment Repair in Owensboro.
Bob enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially mowing his yard, woodworking, and watching baseball. Above all, he cherished time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded by his wife, Barbara Ann Alvey Thomas; sisters, Dorothy Louise Thomas, Kathleen Phillips, Margaret Bickett, Evelyn Mattingly, and Martina Blandford, and brothers, William, Frank, Jim and Raymond Thomas.
Surviving include his children, Carolyn Thomas, Sharon and Gary McCarty, Jeannie Thomas, Allen and Vickie Thomas and Wayne Thomas; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Dean) Worthington, Scott (Bambi) McCarty, Heather (Kyle) Hardesty, Keri French, Krista (Landon) Camp, Bud Allen Thomas (Kalie Lanham), Brandon Thomas and Cassie Thomas; his great grandchildren, Lauren, Austin Worthington, Clayton, Aubrey, Tavarus, Jay, Kinley, Riley, Miles McCarty, Mason Lee, Landon, Everett French, Allie, Kaylee, Miley Camp and Noah Hardesty; three great-great grandchildren; his sister, Sue Thomas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertha Shelton, Emogene Alvey, Mike Alvey, and Tom (Carolyn) Alvey, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sorgho, KY. Friends and family are welcome to visitation on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of service, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Burial will follow mass at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery in St. Joseph, KY.
