Rose Virginia Oberst Clark passed away on March 29, 2026, in Owensboro at the Heartford House with all of her children nearby. Rose was the daughter of Herman S. and Anna Elizabeth Winkler Oberst and was born in Daviess County, KY, on December 24, 1933. Rose was a devoted Catholic all her life. She was class president of Owensboro Catholic High School’s first graduating class in 1952 and attended Brescia College Business Classes. In her married life, Rose was a member of the Immaculate Catholic Church since 1961.
Rose was employed by the Welfare League of Owensboro-Daviess County, Daviess County Judge’s office as a court stenographer and accountant, Party Paper Place, and was an Avon Independent Representative for 10 years. Rose was at home as Mother to her four children for 24 years. She loved helping at school and was a volunteer weekly telephone caller for the Immaculate Catholic Church for 22 years. She was a member of the Diocesan Marian Shrine Committee for 25 years, always helping at the Annual Marian Shrine Conferences. Rose was also a member of the American Business Women’s Association. She liked to read mystery novels, British television, was an avid gardener, loved to travel, and visit with children and grandchildren. Her children will always remember Rose helping them keep tabs with their schoolwork and faithfully attending their school and sport events. She enjoyed talking with her children frequently, always staying caught up on their lives and families. Rose also loved UK basketball games and in the past few years became of fan of St. John’s University as well.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband of 69 years, Joseph Albert “Al” Clark, Jr. in December 2025. She is survived by her children, Joseph Gerard Clark (Cheryl), Stephen Douglas Clark (Sharon), Timothy A. Clark (Kristen), and Mary Elizabeth Clark Uhls (Kevin). She is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren, Brandon, Nicholas Clark (Sarah), Jessica Williams, Wes Clark (Tara), Adam Clark (Andi), Ryan Clark (Caroline), Nolan Clark (Claire), Anna Clark, Lia Clark, Hayley Oldham (Ryan), Matthew Uhls, Andrew Uhls, and Benjamin Uhls; and her eleven great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Kyleigh Williams, Jackson, Lilly, and Noah Clark, and Ella, Lainey, and Lorelei Oldham, Margaret Clark, John Clark, and Brooks Clark.
Her Grandchildren affectionately referred to her as “Grandmother” and loved that she always had a pitcher of lemonade in her refrigerator and cookies in the cookie jar. She continued volunteering in church up to last year as a prayer link contact. She loved sending out beautiful cards for any special occasion to family and friends. Her faith and caring disposition will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Church on Monday, April 6, 2026, at 10:00 am, with Reverend John Vaughan officiating. Visitation will take place at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home on Sunday, April 5, 2026, from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm with prayers at 5:30 p.m.
