
Jean Fitzhugh Payne, 97, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026, at Morning Pointe Senior Living while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born on January 10, 1929, in Central City, KY, to the late Neville and Benita Clark Fitzhugh.
Jean was a member of Owensboro Christian Church where she was a member of the Lydia Bible Class, the Ambassadors Club, and After Five Homemakers. She also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and at the Help Office of Owensboro.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, J. D. Payne; a son, Randall Payne; and a brother, James Fitzhugh.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Sharon Harvey; two sons, Terry (Bobbi) Payne, and Scott Payne; grandchildren, Cameron Harvey, Megan Harvey, Andy Payne, Caleb Payne, Rachel Key, Jessica Morris, and Luke Baird; several great-grandchildren; and her favorite cousin, Allan Harl.
The funeral service for Jean will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Myke Templeton officiating. Burial to follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
