George Bryand “Bud” Edmunds, 96, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2026. He was born on March 31, 1930 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late George and Elizabeth Smith Edmunds. Bud became a pilot flying both commercial and private jets. After retirement, he continued to fly his own plane, Baby Ace, for several years.
Bud lived a full life in his 96 years and saw exciting and historical events. One example is the landing of the world’s fastest jet, the SR-71A Blackbird. It flew its final voyage from California to Washington D.C. to be placed in the Smithsonian. Bud was on the tarmac in his jet and watched this historical event.
On February 11, 1983, Bud married Mary L. Rock. He said repeatedly it was the best 43 years of his life.
Bud was fun and quick witted and surrounded by many friends of all ages. He enjoyed having coffee every morning at Deloris’s Café with many of his buddies, or playing chess with his pilot buddies. Bud was an avid reader and could discuss any topic with anyone. He was awarded the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel on his 95th birthday and he was so proud of this.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Van Guilder; and a brother, Ray Selvia.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Edmunds; daughters, Carla (Glenn) Chambers, Kim (Jay) Paulsen, and Kristie (Jeff) Dawson; son, Kevin (Shannon) Rock; grandchildren, Grady (Ashley) Upchurch, Nathan (Tasha) Paulsen, Jessica (John) Hellams, Jeremy (Heather) Dawson, Blake (Bria) Dawson, Cade Rock, and Jensen Rock; 12 great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Ron Selvia.
Bud’s life will be celebrated with a service at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
