Bobby Joe Young, 81, of Owensboro died Thursday, September 12, 2019. He was born in McLean County on August 23, 1938 to the late Joseph Young and Birdie Hagan Young. Bobby Joe was retired from Brewco Motor Sports and Estes Farms. Bobby was a member of the Owensboro Jaycees, lifelong member of the FFA Alumni, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed racing, being with his family, and he was the Backyard Barbecue Fest cook off champion three years in a row. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janet.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Shirley Tipmore Young; their children, Keith (Alison) Young, Rob (Kathy) Young, Donna (Coleman) Cooper, Marty Joe (Sue) Young; 14 grandchildren, Misty Lowe (“Bub”) Lowe, Travis Young (Camron), Tyler Young (Shelly), Shane Marks, Shawn Marks , Chad Young, Brittany Brown (Austin), Bailey Cummins (Andrew), Brandi Hoover (Aaron), Morgan Oliver, Steven Oliver, Stephen Locher (Felicia), Katlin Rafferty (Aaron), and Austin Gall; 11 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Nash, Jaxon, Gracie, Makaila, Jordyn, Janson, Addison, Brayden, Ryan, and Carsyn; three brothers, Billy Young (Maxine), Jimmy Young (Ruth), and Donnie Young (Linda); and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 4:00p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be on Sunday from 12:00pm until 4:00pm at the funeral home.
The family request that donations be made in Bobby’s name to Norton Brownsboro Hospital and KY Motorsports Hall of Fame.
