Edward “Ed” Lawrence Mattingly, 71, of Maceo, passed away on April 23, 2026. He was born on July 7, 1954, to the late Joseph Earl and Mary Ruby (Hamilton) Mattingly.
Ed was a devoted husband, loving father, proud papaw, loyal friend, and dedicated coach. He was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith, which guided how he lived, loved, and supported those around him.
He was known for his kindness, strength, and the way he showed up for others—whether on the sidelines as a coach, at home with his family, or as a friend you could always count on. He took great pride in his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, and nothing meant more to him than time spent with those he loved.
Ed proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he received the National Defense Service Medal. His commitment to service carried into every aspect of his life. He worked as an electrician for Ragu/Mizkan, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
A devoted and faithful member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Ed found strength, purpose, and a deep sense of community in his faith. He actively served his parish in many ways, including being part of the cooking team, serving as an altar server, and employed as ground maintenance—always willing to give his time and talents wherever they were needed.
In addition to his service to his country, church, and community, Ed was honored as a Kentucky Colonel, a recognition that reflected his character, generosity, and lifelong commitment to serving others.
Along with his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Ann.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 48 years, Tammy (Jackson) Mattingly; his children, Eddie (Jackie) Mattingly, Corey Mattingly, Melinda Mattingly, Jared (Brook) Mattingly, Wesley Mattingly, Jeremy (Heather) Mattingly, Devin Mattingly, Justin Mattingly, and Micah (Nolan) Roberts; his grandchildren, Leigha (Daniel) Martin, Madelyn Petri, Hayden Mattingly, Keaton Mattingly, Malayah Mattingly, Easton Mattingly, Maddox Mattingly Hudson Mattingly, Zane Mattingly, Khyler Mattingly, Dawson Mattingly, and Bella Mattingly; his siblings, Janie (Leon) Brasher, Faye O’Bryan, Bud (Jan) Mattingly, Ennie (Danny) Brasher, Charlie (Ina) Mattingly, Judy Pate, Patsy (Darrell) Clark, Ricky (Sharon) Mattingly, Tommy (Lisa) Mattingly, and Kenny Mattingly, and many cherished extended family members.
