
Sheila (Hood) Head, 84, of Owensboro, passed away on April 27, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born in Owensboro on December 4, 1941, to the late Justin and Bernice (Hardesty) Hood.
Sheila was loving, faithful, hardworking and family oriented. She loved to spend time and birthdays with her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted member of Precious Blood Catholic Church. She found joy in crocheting everyone hats and baby blankets and enjoyed making baby hats for Birthright. She loved playing cards with her siblings and in-laws and enjoying a good game of bingo.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, James Head; her daughter, Jennifer Barr-Bell; her grandsons, Tony Bell and Justin Barr; her siblings, Bob Hood (Connie), Gerald Ray Hood, Charlie Hood, Daryl Hood, and Jim Hardesty (Ruthie); and her in-laws, Clemie Cecil, Tom Hagan, Billy Mayfield, Anna and Donald Daugherty, Jr. and Marie Head, and Sonny and Patsy Head.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Paula Martin (Brad), Cindy Bromley, Steve Barr (Darlene), Terri Bosecker (Tim), and Richard Head (Maria Elena); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; her siblings, Doug Hood (Dorothy), Jackie Cecil, Linda Hagan, Sandy Mayfield, Debbie Murphy (Larry), and Norma Fulkerson (Eddie); and her in-laws, Lois Hood, Judy Hood, Celeste Hood, Donnie and Bonnie Head, and David and Sally Head.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Precious Blood Catholic Church with Fr. Carl McCarthy officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday May 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Burial to follow after services at St. William Cemetery in Knottsville, KY.
