With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of Hilton “Bobby” Burden on May 8, 2026, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born on May 4, 1960, in Owensboro, Kentucky, Bobby’s journey on this earth ended after a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion.
Bobby was the son of the late Eugene Burden and Mary Linda Humphrey Turner Burden. He was predeceased by his brothers, Doug and Tony Burden, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms into eternity.
For 32 wonderful years, Bobby shared his life with his devoted wife, Barbara Vandruff Burden. Married on April 12, 1994, in Owensboro, their union was a testament to true partnership and unconditional love. Together, they found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly their shared passion for animals. Bobby and Barbara dedicated themselves not only to each other but also to the care and welfare of countless animals. They were truly each other’s world.
Bobby is survived by his cherished stepdaughter, Heather McCoy (Chris), along with his adored granddaughter, Lauren Mitchell.
Bobby spent 50 years as a commercial painter. He began his career with Jim Haynes Painting, eventually turning it into his own. His dedication to his wife and work was made evident, as he continued to work through the cancer treatments and the pain just until recently.
Bobby was more than just a skilled tradesman. A committed advocate for animal welfare, he was an active member of the ASPCA, PETA, and numerous animal rescue organizations. His home was a sanctuary not only for his beloved cats, Katie and Molly, but for countless animals he rescued and nurtured back to health over the years. He also enjoyed fossil hunting with his wife, at the lake.
Known for his quirky and mischievous humor, Bobby brightened the lives of those around him with his infectious smile and genuine happiness. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand.
Hilton “Bobby” Burden, your spirit remains with us, a guiding light of love and laughter. You will be deeply missed, yet never forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, May 15, 2026 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
