David W. Bennett, 86, of Owensboro, passed away at his home on May 26, 2026.. He was born in Owensboro on February 2, 1940, to the late Elmer “Ox” Bennett and Newell Potter Bennett.
David was a graduate of Owensboro Senior High class of 1958 and was a proud five-year Army veteran. He enjoyed sports and found pleasure in watching television. Including many game shows, The Andy Griffith Show, and listening to Elvis Presley, as well as spending his free time with his beloved service cat, Mindy.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Alan Bennett; daughter, Melissa Hunter and a grandson, Dallas Cassidy.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Georgia “Gaye” Bennett; daughter, Lori Ann Cassidy; grandchildren, Haley Ann Jones (Mike), Seth Christian Fralick (Joel), Kendall Lathery (Chris), and Rachel Blanchard (Travis); several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and special caregiver, his niece Becky Moyer-Davis.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will also be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery.
