Milbra Kay Atkinson Howe, 75, of Greensburg, Indiana, returned to the embrace of our Lord God on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at her home. She was born on September 15, 1950 in Greensburg, Indiana to the late Orville and Olive Kirk Atkinson.

Milbra’s calling was teaching. Starting with her English degree from Brescia College and Masters at Western Kentucky University. Laying a foundation of teaching at Trinity High School, helping in any capacity with students in journalism, school newspaper or yearbook. From there Milbra’s teaching journey landed her at Daviess County High School for a brief time. Then a dramatic change…California. Several years of Ontario High School where students again blossomed under her tutelage. Milbra’s final journey for teaching was special to her at Owensboro High School, nurturing the lives of students and student teachers. Teaching at Owensboro High School built deep friendships with fellow teachers and faculty…a true blessing. She was named Owensboro Public School 1996 Teacher of the Year.

In addition to her parents, Milbra was preceded in death by her husband, Stephan Thomas Howe; and sisters, Joyce Sharer (Gerald) and Mary Christine.

Survivors include her children, Jonathan Howe (Megan) and Julia Wolfe (Jonathan); grandchildren, Tyler Reynolds, Aiden Thomas Howe, and Lily Howe; stepson, Fred Howe (Meredith) and their two sons; sisters, Anna Sutherlin, Phyllis Rickard and Sharon Houston (Rodney); brothers, Orville Atkinson Jr. (Yvonne) and Kirk Atkinson (Reba); brothers-in-law, David Howe, Michael Howe and Peter Howe (Lora); and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Private family burial will follow the service at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
