LEWISPORT, KY — Ruth Darlene Hatchett, a pillar of love, warmth, and culinary devotion, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. She was 72 years old. Born on January 7, 1954, to the late James “Jim” W. Harris and Martha J. Harris, Ruth spent her life cultivating joy, nurturing her family, and spreading warmth to everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.
Ruth was a woman of vibrant passions and quiet contentment. Before the sun rose, she enjoyed a fresh cup of hot coffee to start her day. For many years, she poured her heart and immense talent into her career at Owensboro Health and Regional Hospital, where she ultimately retired as a respected Sous-Chef.
When she wasn’t at work, Ruth found deep peace in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed relaxing outside, welcoming the cool breezes of the sunrise and soaking in the warmth of the sunsets. She took profound joy in caring for her lawn and watching the fruits of her labor bloom under her care. An avid fan of classic Western movies, she appreciated the timeless stories of grit and heart. Ruth also possessed a great love for travel, embracing new sights and adventures. She also enjoyed her outings to Cracker Barrel where she enjoyed great breakfast and laughs with family and friends.
Above all her hobbies and professional achievements, Ruth’s greatest masterpiece and truest pride was her family. She was the absolute matriarch, dedicating her entire life to loving, guiding, and supporting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her presence was a source of unconditional love, and her legacy of devotion will continue to live on through the generations she so beautifully nurtured.
Ruth is reunited in eternal rest with her beloved parents, James “Jim” W. and Martha J. Harris, and her dear siblings: sisters Gonzalla Gassom and Beulah Gassom, and brothers Hasson “Timmy” Harris and Donald Harris.
Her legacy of love burns brightly through her children Michelle Mundy, Jane “Janie” Mundy Davis (Karl Davis Jr.), Larry Mundy (Jannelynn Mundy), Ivan Leak; 14 grandchildren Cherelle Coleman, Dartavis Mundy, Adrian Mundy, Alexis Mundy, Cheala Friar, Ariel Mundy, Adonis Mundy, Dominic Mundy, Iriel Leak, Inaysia Johnson, I’Laycia Leak, I’Janae Leak, Iyanna Leak, Calvin Leak; 4 great grandchildren Armani Coleman, Jamyson Mundy, Khaden Mundy, Leilauni Mundy; daughters in love Terri Johnson and Tara Lynn; and sisters Betty Gibson, Terry Marshall, and Margaret Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow the service at Lewisport Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
