Gene Frederick Worthington, 85, of Owensboro, KY, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026 at Twin Rivers Nursing and Rehabilitation in Owensboro. He was born on January 6, 1941 at home in Daviess County to the late Wallace Frederick and Leether Adelean Chapman Worthington. Gene was a charter member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God and retired from the City of Owensboro Sanitation Department where he was known as ‘Grumpy’. He was an active member of the Owensboro Area Stamp Club and enjoyed using his CB radio where he was known as ‘Sputnik’.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Saunders Worthington; siblings, Francis Worthington, Nettie Mae Duggins, Wallace Michael Worthington and Sandra Kay Green.
Survivors include his son, Daniel Worthington (Lisa) of Owensboro; daughter, Angela Boone (Scott) of Alabama; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Rebecca Booker and Carrie Laughlin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, June 12, 2026 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow the service at Brushy Fork Cemetery in Panther, KY. Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday and from 12:00pm until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
