
Sherwood Kirk, 77, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born February 24, 1949 in Fordsville to the late Conley Hobart and Florence Elizabeth Norris Kirk. Sherwood was a member of First Presbyterian Church and retired as a teacher at the former Fordsville High School and had served as Director of Pupil Personel and Food Services, all with the Ohio County Board of Education. Sherwood also had coached basketball at the Junior High level and was an assistant basketball coach at the high school. He enjoyed fishing, traveling with his wife Marsha, and volunteering with Habitat For Humanity. Sherwood loved helping people and making them smile. One of his favorite sayings was “I’m a Jack of all Trades, but a Master of None”. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph R. and Arthur Dale Kirk.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Marsha Lynn Kirk; two children, Kevin Kirk (Ziza) and Kimberly Masters, all of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Ethne Kirk Perez-Ku, Kierstin Hinkley, Cora Boling, Aidan Kirk Booth, Ethan Masters, and Gavin Masters; two great grandchildren, Jace and Nate Hinkley; a brother, Norris Day Kirk; and a niece and nephew, Melissa Bullington and Christopher Kirk.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday, June 18, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation will be from 10 AM until 1:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
