Charles Edward “Eddie” Smith, 83, of Stanley, Kentucky, passed away on June 25, 2026, in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was born on January 20, 1943, to Jacob and Martha Ellen “Jarboe” Smith.
A lifelong farmer, Eddie was a devoted member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, where he was active in the Men’s Club and the Knights of Columbus. He proudly served his community as a former member of the Daviess County Water Board and was honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
Eddie enjoyed tractor pulling, traveling, fishing, and hunting. He especially treasured time spent outdoors and the memories he made with his family and friends. Eddie was a fan of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Elliot Motorsports, John Deere, Pioneer, and Miller beer. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to his community, and the many lives he touched throughout the years.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Bill Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles Edwin Carrico and Mary Virginia “Boarman” Carrico; brothers-in-law, Pat, Frank, and Sam Carrico; sisters-in-law, Lucy Goetz and Carol Hurm; two nephews, Bernie Smith and Toby Goetz; and niece, Amy Goetz.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Jeanette Carrico Smith; his son, Adam Andrew Smith; sister, Suzanne (Eddie) Goetz of Grant, Florida; sisters-in-law, Judy Bielfeld, Karen (Greg) Gilmore, Nancy Smith and Janice Walker; and brothers-in-law, Mark (Mary Alice) Carrico, Rick Carrico, David (Judy) Carrico, Chris (Jamie) Carrico, and Phil Carrico.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Saint Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, with Father Will Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to visit St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church Parish Hall on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with Father Thompson leading prayer at 6:00 p.m.
Visitation will resume on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
