William D. Knott

July 9, 1936 - July 27, 2018

William D. Knott, 82, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Veterans’ Center in Hanson, Kentucky. He was born in Owensboro on July 9, 1936, to the late Robert I. Knott and Lois Mattingly Knott. Bill, a US Army and a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, retired from the Ford Motor Company, Chicago, were he worked as a Tow Motor Operator for 32 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 6101, he loved making “Billi Bread”, to garden, and was very devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha O’Bryan Froehlich.

Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Warren Knott, his children Mary (Tony) Askin of Philpot, Darlene (Dan) Thomas of Owensboro, June (Larry) Schmidt of Hebron, Indiana, and John (Lisa) Knott of Cedar Lake, Indiana; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings Robert (Terri) Knott, Jim (Beverly) Knott, and Nancy (Denny) Mann, all of Owensboro.

Services will be 10:00 am Monday, July 30, 2018, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, with Father Richard Powers officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory, and from 8:30 am to 10:00 am Monday at the church. Prayers will be said 7:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the St. Mary Magdalene Building Fund; 7232 KY-56; Owensboro, Kentucky. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
