Rebecca Dixon Eckles “Granny Eck”, 79, of Lewisport, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2026 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky at the Heartford House. She was born in Columbia, KY to the late Rev. Ernest L. and Zona Haynes Dixon. Becky was a member of Lewisport Methodist Church and was a retired School Teacher. She graduated from Butler High School in Louisville, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Lindsey Wilson College and Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University. Becky taught for 49 years in both Hancock County and North Carolina. She loved to read and work puzzles. She could often be found sitting in the stands cheering “Go Hornets” for her grandchildren.
Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Eckels; grandson, Jonathan Shane Eckles; siblings, Alma (James) Smith, Martha (Louis) Brummett, J.D. (Shirley) Dixon, Edna (Bobby) Hale, Patricia (Billy) Duvall and Linda (Dr. Robert) Stahl; brother-in-law, T.J. Jewell; sister -in-law, Francis Goodbread.
Survivors include her children, Sona (Ed) Miller, J. Shane (Kara) Eckles and Sherrill (Denise) Eckles; grandchildren, Bridgett (Kevin) Eckles Corley, Jake (Samantha) Eckles, Jared (Katey) Eckles, Aiden Embry, Eli Embry, Nic Miller, Kristen (Jordan) McCormick, Dillon (Alexis) Eckles and Trent (Jenny) Rosenblatt, 17 great grandchildren; siblings, Mira Jewell and Ray (Diane) Eckles; special niece, Flora Ann Smith and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Lewisport Methodist Church with burial following in Lewisport Cemetery. Becky’s family will be greeting friends on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 3 pm until 7 pm at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Lewisport Chapel and on Wednesday from 9 am until service time at the church. The Educators Honor Guard performing their service at 6 pm on Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky or South Hancock Elementary School PTO.
