Timothy Alan Murphy Sr.

Timothy Alan Murphy Sr., 72, of Owensboro, passed away on July 21, 2026. He was born on August 16, 1953, to the late Joseph Anthony Murphy Sr. and Mary Olivia (Mischel) Murphy.

After retiring from Swedish Match following 28 years of dedicated service, Tim embraced retirement with the same appreciation and enthusiasm that he brought to life. He loved spending time on the golf course, relaxing with a glass of his favorite bourbon—JTS Brown 100 proof—and sharing countless laughs during poker games with his Catholic High and Windridge buddies. Tim took tremendous pride in keeping his yard beautifully maintained and enjoyed planting flowers that brightened every season. Some of his happiest moments were the simple ones: sipping his morning coffee on the patio, reading the newspaper, and listening to the birds as a new day began. These everyday pleasures reflected the contentment he found in a life well lived.

Along with his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his brother, John Murphy; grandson, Brody Lanham; and lifelong friend, Larry Ward.

Those left to cherish his memory include his significant other, Jill Milton; children, Rachelle Lanham, Kristy (Ben) Murphy, Tim Murphy Jr., and Lindsay (James) Lodmell; grandchildren, Abby Murphy, Molly Lanham, Miles Lanham, Brandon Gardner, Lydia Gardner, Mason Gardner, Abbey (Isaac) Houtchen, John Kenton Lodmell, Ryan Lodmell, Caroline Lodmell, and Andrew Lodmell; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Clary; brother, Joseph “Buzzy” (Teresa) Murphy; cousin, Kevin (Beverly) Murphy; sister-in-law, Shelly Murphy; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

A prayer service will take place on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.
