Geary Lynn Thomas, 65, of Owensboro, passed away on July 23, at Heartford House under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born May 10, 1961, in Daviess County to the late Richard Franklin Thomas and Margie C. Fulton Thomas.
Geary had a sharp sense of humor, a love for music, and an ability to make friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Among the things he passed on to his daughters, his sense of humor has proven to be the most useful.
Like many who struggle with addiction, his life took turns that changed the course of his relationships and the memories those closest to him carry. While his story was far from simple, it was his story, and we hope he has finally found the peace that often eluded him in life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Franklin Thomas, Richard Caroll Thomas, Joseph “Mike” Thomas, and Francis Louise Thomas Brown.
He is survived by his daughters, Theresa Henry (Greg), Ceary Crisp (Aaron) and Katherine Riley (Lee); nine grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Jean Sanders, Robert Lee Thomas, Donald Gail Thomas, and Dennis Wayne Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
His daughters would also like to acknowledge his former wife and their mother, Lesia, for the support she provided over the past 40 years. Although their marriage ended decades ago, she continued to help him when few others would, ensuring he was as comfortable as possible and received compassionate care at the end of his life.
