Betty Jo (Dever) Sauter

March 16, 1942 - October 8, 2019

Betty Jo (Dever) Sauter, 77, of Evansville, passed away October 8, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born March 16, 1942 in Hartford, KY, to the late Marvin and Dorothy (Farmer) Dever. Betty attended Baker Elementary School and graduated Central High School in 1960. She was a student at Bramwell Business College and married Donnie Sauter on June 12, 1965. Betty was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy in her 50’s, and while it was hard on her, she was a fighter and never let it slow her down. She loved everything outdoors; hiking, camping, and planting things. Betty had a soft spot for animals, whether it be one of her beloved pets, or a ladybug on her shoulder. Even though she was a lifelong resident of Indiana, she was a member of the Palm Society; she grew various types of palm trees in her house, and once they became too big, she donated them to the Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden. Betty had a way of making any plant grow, maybe from her skill, or maybe simply from determination. She enjoyed trips to the ocean and the mountains and had a large collection of seashells and rocks from the places she had visited. Betty enjoyed life to the fullest and was curious about everything.

Betty was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Norman Williams, Gerald Vaught, and Ray Stevens; and many beloved pets.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald Sauter; daughter, Sherry (Kevin) Parma; sons, Donald Jr. (Joan) Sauter and Dale Sauter; grandchildren, Christopher and Lesley Sauter and Seth “Baby Sethy” and Lorelei “Lala” Parma; sisters-in-law, Marge Williams, Shelba Vaught, and Judy Stevens; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 12pm Saturday, October 12, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10am until 12pm Saturday at the funeral home.
