
Otis P. “Shorty” Hicks, 84, of Owensboro, passed on October 31, 2019, at his home. He was born January 6, 1935 to the late Arch and Mary Virginia Haynes Hicks in Hebbardsville, KY. In 1945 his family all moved to Whitesville, KY. Otis graduated from Daviess County High School in 1953. After graduation he helped on the family farm. In 1997, after 39 years, he retired from Gipe Automotive. After retirement, he served on Southeast Daviess County Water Board for ten years. Otis also worked part-time for Proctor and Gamble and Rural King. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a member and past vice-president of the Men’s Bible Class. Otis was an avid golfer. He had two holes-in-one at Hillcrest Golf Course and later became a ranger at the golf course.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Theresa Allan, Marianna ” Polly” Buckles, Sierra Hicks, and Archie Hicks.
Mr. Hicks is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Williams Hicks; his children, Sonja Burcham (Kim) of Owensboro, Roger Hicks (Don) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jonathan Hicks (Robin) of Laurium, MI, and Timothy Hicks (Ashley) of Owensboro; grandchildren, Nick McCosh (Katie), Ginny Layman (Paul), Melissa Kamuf (Ben), Jordan Hicks, Ella Grace Hicks, and Paxton Graham Hicks; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Calvin Hicks (Sue) of Piedmont, AL
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the First Presbyterian Church Campaign Fund or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
The memorial service will be 11 am Saturday, November 9, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church. A celebration of life will be held 4 to 7pm Friday, November 8, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church and from 10 am until time of service Saturday at the church. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
