Donald “Donnie” Ray Whistle, 77, of Owensboro, Kentucky, formerly of Panther, Kentucky, passed away August 11, 2018, under the care of Signature Heath Care at Hillcrest. He was born in Daviess County on August 16, 1940 to the late Raymond N. Whistle and Mary Eliza Thomas Whistle. Donald worked for Green Coal Company for 27 years and went on to retire from Southern States where he worked as a Warehouseman. Donald was a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, making burgoo, which he took a lot of pride in after doing several fundraisers for his church. Donnie loved building things, having built several barns and helped remodel his church, deer hunting, working with livestock, and enjoyed music. He loved his family and friends.
Along with his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita (Remus) Moore and Bernadean (Charles) Barnett.
Donald is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy Whistle. He is also survived by his children: Duane (Melanie) Whistle, Raymond Whistle, Keith (Rhonda) Whistle, grandchildren: Jennifer Mogan, Brandon Whistle, Brooke Beals, Brennah Dycus, Wesley Whistle, Jessica Cauley, Kamron Whistle, a great-grandchild, Rylee Bryant, sister, Edna Nicely, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, with Jason Mayfield officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, August 15, 2018 and again 10:00 am until the time of the service, Thursday, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Brushy Fork Cemetery.
