Joseph "Jody" Franklin Mitchell

July 24, 1959 - October 28, 2020

Joseph “Jody” Franklin Mitchell, 61, of Owensboro, passed away due to complications from pneumonia on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born July 24, 1959 in Daviess County. Jody retired after 35 years at Texas Gas as the scheduling analyst. He was a proud graduate of the class of 1977 at South Spencer High School. He served on Girls Inc. board and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles. He helped out with Woman’s Guild and Boulware Center. Jody enjoyed shopping, gardening, swimming, NASCAR, horseracing, and anything Chevy. He was in Heaven when he was shopping daily, on the beaches in Florida, and on his weekly trips to the Fresh Market in Evansville.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Lula and Frank Woodruff; and aunt Elizabeth Chamberlain.

He was survived by a brother, Gilbert Mitchell; mother, Frances Hedges (Allen); special nieces, Amber Gebhard (Terry) and Brittney Masterson (John); uncle, Melvin Woodruff; was “Pop Pop” to great-nephews, Memphis Gebhard and Zachary Mitchell and great-niece, Savannah Bickett; several other nieces and nephews; and his faithful companions, Gem and Jade.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday in the chapel at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Reo, Indiana. Visitation is from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday and after 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. The number of those attending the visitation or funeral shall be within current health and safety directives. Family and friends shall wear appropriate personal protective masks.
